TAWNY FROG MOUTH BROOCH!
Introducing my next design - the Tawny Frogmouth (Podargus strigoides), which is native to all of Australia, including Tasmania.
Did you know the Tawny Frogmouth is not an Owl? It's more closely related to nightjars.
This brooch design is super lightweight and has a powerful industrial magnet on the back so your clothes won't get holes ever again. Not a fan of magnets, that's cool, choose the barrel pin clasp instead.
Featuring hand-stamped details, and in particular a grumpy expression, this bird captures my love of the weird and wonderful. The tawny frogmouth's beak and facial hair are fascinating to me and definitely set it apart from other birds.
Made from recycled aluminium, industrial magnets, stainless steel, and a sharpie pen, this brooch is the 4th design in my new collection.
Standing approximately 50mm tall and 55mm wide, it packs a punch.
This brooch was inspired by a tawny frog mouth that visits my house each night.
Jewellery Care:
Here are some ways to keep your Tawny Frog Mouth Brooch in great condition!
- Hold your brooch by the edges or the backing magnet especially when putting them on and off.
- Try to not touch the front of the brooch if you can. The flat unstamped surfaces can become marked and scratched over time.
- Avoid getting them wet. It's best to avoid wearing your brooch in heavy rain or in the shower, as the aluminium and industrial magnet can discolour, and the sharpie pen can rub out.
- Keeping them clean... avoid using alcohol based products on your brooch. Use a microfiber cloth to polish them or if marked, use 1000 grit sandpaper and gently sand the front of the brooch to remove any finger prints or unwanted marks. Please note: once sanded, the brooch front will be raw; so avoid touching the surface until air (oxygen) has started tarnishing it again.
- Store them safely. All Meekz Contemporary Jewellery come in their own gift box which will keep your brooch clean, protected and stop it sticking to all other metal things.
