our ethos
SUSTAINABLE & ENVIRONMENTAL & ETHICHAL ETHOS
At Meekz, Iām devoted to crafting exquisite jewellery that reflects a deep sense of responsibility and ethical care. Sustainability isnāt just a trend for meāitās the foundation of everything I do. I believe fashion should be more than beautiful; it should honour the planet we share.
Every piece I create is designed not only to be stunning but to stand as a quiet rebellion against the throwaway culture that dominates the fashion industry. Iām committed to mindful consumption because I know that every choice I make has an impactānot just on today, but on the generations to come.
Thatās why I carefully select reclaimed and repurposed materials, breathing new life into what others might discard. This process allows me to minimise environmental impact while crafting jewellery thatās truly one-of-a-kindāeach piece tells its own story, blending sustainability with artistry.
My commitment to sustainability runs through every part of Meekz. From the first sketch to the final packaging, I use eco-friendly practices at every stage. I work with suppliers who share my values, ensuring that the entire supply chain reflects my dedication to ethical and sustainable principles. Even my packaging is thoughtfully designed using recycled and biodegradable materials, so my customers can feel good about their purchase from beginning to end.
When you choose Meekz, youāre not just buying jewellery ā youāre joining a movement. Youāre embracing a future where fashion is both beautiful and responsible. I hope to inspire you to make eco-conscious choices and to be part of a community that values creativity, sustainability, and compassion.
Together, we can redefine what it means to adorn ourselves, proving that style and ethical responsibility can live in harmony. I invite you to join me on this journey, as I continue to innovate and advocate for a brighter, more sustainable world, one exquisite piece of jewellery at a time.
MATERIALS USED ā RECYCLED METALS
I take great pride in making pieces that are made using recycled, reused, or repurposed metals that would otherwise be destined for the rubbish tip.
Some of the metals I use include;
⢠Aluminium from fencing, roofing and signage companies
⢠Road signs from my local council and curbside
⢠Copper and brass from scrap and metal factories, thrift shops, electricians, plumbers and our customers
⢠Sterling silver and gold from thrift shops, estate homes, customers and our metal suppliers who purchase products that are not only recycled and manufactured with the environment in mind but are also manufactured here in Australia
My jewellery is very durable but care should be taken due to its handmade nature.
Some of my pieces are designed to show off old scratch marks and dints in the metals - this is a feature of the product and in no way a fault.
HAND - DRAWN DESIGNS
I take immense pride in transforming my sketched illustrations into stunning wearable art that can be enjoyed every single day. Each piece is uniquely crafted, reflecting my dedication to artistry and individuality. The meticulous attention to detail in my designs means that no two items are ever the same, ensuring that each wearer has something truly special. From vibrant colours to intricate patterns, my pieces are a celebration of creativity and personal expression. Whether youāre looking for a striking statement piece or a subtle accessory to complement your outfit, youāll discover that my hand-drawn designs offer a unique charm that sets them apart from mass-produced items. Embrace the beauty of originality and wear my art with pride!
PRODUCTION PROCESS
My production process is a harmonious blend of inspiration drawn from the vibrant aesthetics of urban landscapes and the serene beauty of natural environments. This duality is further enriched by my fascination with minimalist geometric shapes, which serve as the backbone of my design philosophy. Each piece begins with a meticulous sketch that captures the essence of my vision, allowing me to conceptualise how various elements will come together.
Once I finalise the design, I employ a range of traditional silversmithing techniques to bring my ideas to life. Hand sawing is the first step, where I carefully cut out the shapes from metal sheets, ensuring precision and attention to detail. Following this, I skilfully use soldering to join different components, creating a seamless flow within the piece.
To add texture and depth, I incorporate hammer texturing, a technique that not only enhances the visual appeal of my jewellery but also reflects light beautifully, giving the pieces a dynamic quality. The final touch often involves oxidising, a process that darkens certain areas of the metal, adding contrast and highlighting the intricate details of my work.
Through this thoughtful and artisanal approach, I transform my sketches into stunning statement pieces that are not only visually striking but also perfect for everyday wear, allowing individuals to express their unique style with elegance and sophistication. Each creation is a testament to my dedication to craftsmanship and passion for design, making my jewellery both a personal accessory and a work of art.
BRANDED STORY
Every Meekz item is thoughtfully presented on beautifully designed, thick cards that exude elegance and sophistication. Each card is not just a means of display; it serves a deeper purpose by telling a story. On the back, you will find the narrative of my brand, which reflects my commitment to sustainability and ethical practices. This includes detailed information about the recycled metals I use, highlighting my dedication to minimising environmental impact. To enhance the experience, each item comes in a beautiful gift box, making it perfect for gifting or treating yourself.
SUPPORTING LOCAL
I am proud to support Australian small businesses by sourcing locally and contributing to my communityās growth and sustainability. I currently make trips out to my suppliers within Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, and Toowoomba regularly to collect what materials I can find and give them a new life.
I also love working with my customers, who donate their materials to keep the cycle going.
