LEAF INSECT

Introducing the Australian Leaf Insect (Walaphyllium monteith), which is one of only two true leaf insect species found in tropical rainforests in North Queensland, and is known for its remarkable, near-perfect camouflage resembling leaves. They also have flattened, green or brown bodies, vein-like patterns, and even fake blemishes, and can measure up to 85 mm long.

These are a smaller statement style earring, which are super lightweight, have a 3 dimensional curved abdomen that wiggles, and have intricate hand-cut leaf-like legs.

They are approximately 50mm tall and 20mm wide, including the shepherd hook.

Featuring a lime green car vinyl abdomen, this insect captures my love of the weird and wonderful. The leaf insect's curved abdomen and leaf-like legs are so fascinating and set it apart from all other insects.

Made from recycled brass, sterling silver, stainless steel, car vinyl, and paint pen.

Jewellery Care:

Here are some ways to keep your Leaf Insect in great condition!

- Hold your earrings by the shepherd hooks, especially when putting them on and off.

- Try not to touch the vinyl if you can. The insect's abdomen is made with car vinyl and is considered to be highly durable and scratch resistant; however, it could still be marked.

- Avoid getting them wet. It's best to avoid wearing your earrings in heavy rain or in the shower, as the brass and sterling silver hooks can discolour.

- Keeping them clean... avoid using alcohol based products on your earrings. Use a microfiber cloth or soft cloth. The brass body layer has been left to naturally age, so it will turn a darker golden yellow over time. Should you wish to have them re-polished, just contact me, and I can arrange this service.

- Store them safely. All Meekz Contemporary Jewellery come in its own gift box, which will keep your earrings clean and protected.
